CateringThe service, decor, and food at this place is top tier. The art is 30s/40s Chinese American. The servers are dressed up in prohibition era garb. Just right when you walk in you can feel the positive energy punctuated by the absolutely amazing service. We ordered the har gao, pork dumplings in hot oil, xiaolongbao, pickled veg, spicy soft shell crab, 3 pepper chicken, and the green beans. We were disappointed by none of them. The highlights, for me, were the chicken, picked veg, and the pork dumplings. The oolong tea was also decent. But that service was *chefs kiss*. I've not seen a staff so on it since Blue Hill. Very good meal with exquisite service. I would definitely return here.
This place exceeded expectations all around!! First and foremost, the service is PHENOMENAL!!! The servers were constantly checking in and very helpful when we were trying to decide what to order. I went for my birthday and they brought out a birthday dessert and then brought out a Polaroid camera so that they could take a picture of me with the dessert for me to keep. It was very very sweet of them and the dessert was also very good!! The restaurant also has a very antique vibe which was beautiful. The food was also great. The best thing we had was the truffle beef tenderloin which was very tender and flavorful without the truffle being too overwhelming.
I was in New York for work and I heard from a friend that Chili was the place to go! I walked about 4 miles to get to this location, by choice thinking that if I saw anything appetizing along the way I'd stop and eat there but nothing drew my attention. Once I got to the restaurant I was blown away! I went on a Tuesday and it wasn't too crazy but it was busy. The atmosphere was great, very friendly and they were able to accommodate big groups and small groups. I was eating alone. The waiters were great, nice, attentive, but not pushy. They made great recommendations and checked in on me often. I thought that the portions were great and everything was delicious. If you're into spicy foods this place will blow your mind.
I came here for lunch on a Tuesday afternoon with a friend. The place had an old school Chinese feel (1920s Shanghai) to it with the staff wearing suspenders and cheongsam (Chinese long gown). We ordered a bunch of lunch specials which include white rice and soup (hot and sour or egg drop). We ordered the braised fish filets with tofu, kung pao chicken, string beans, and braised cabbage. The food was delicious and they really put a lot of chilis! I mean the place is called Chili but wow, I'm still surprised since I would think they would cater to American tastes (Americans can't handle too spicy haha). My favorite dish was the fish filets with tofu which is also one of my favorite Sichuan dishes...
This place was such a treat! The wait staff is so friendly and service was amazing. We ordered off the dim sum menu. The pork dumpling in chili oil had the most tasty sauce I probably have ever had with a dish like this. The wonton chili is also amazing with the best flavor. The soup dumplings are delicious. And the scallion cakes are some of the best I've had, so crispy and light. The 1920s vibe of the place was also adorable and just made it so fun to experience. Next time I'm in NYC I will definitely be back and likely multiple times!
